Rachel is an alumni of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University. While she worked on her journalism major, she pursued audio engineering on the side.
Rachel grew up in Simi Valley, California where she took advantage of being right outside of Los Angeles. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be apart of the entertainment industry whether it was in front or behind the microphone.
In 2018, Rachel took a class at her high school called Stagecraft. In that course, she was able to discover her love for sound engineering. She met Julia Pinhey who is a sound designer and engineer and Jonathan Burke who is a lecturer and administrative coordinator at UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, as well as a sound designer and mixing engineer. Julia became Rachel's first sound mentor and taught her a basic knowledge of what audio is all about. At the end of the school year, Rachel was chosen to be Head Audio Technician for her last musical theater show at her school in May 2019.
In 2018, Rachel was able to intern with Lifetime Network on Mommy Be Mine in the Sound Department.
In January 2019, Rachel was able to intern at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza for a show called "Music of the Night." After that, she interned with 5 Star Theatricals for musical theater shows "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Beauty and The Beast," which was also at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. In the same summer of 2019, Rachel was asked to intern with Lifetime Network once again in the Sound Department.
After Rachel moved to Arizona to start her Bachelors Degree at Arizona State University, she immediately immersed herself in the sound world. She knew she did not want to give up sound engineering as a possible career in the future. She started working sound with Chris Campbell for her college's Must See Mondays where guest speakers would come in every week to talk about their experiences in journalism. She then met Alex Kosiorek, Manager at Central Sound at Arizona PBS, and started interning for him her second semester of her freshman year. She learned how to do more recording-based sound and worked with the sound engineers at many venues setting up and tearing down equipment.
In March of 2019, Rachel was selected for the NAB Pilot/NABEF Broadcast Engineering Intern position where she would be flown out round-trip to Las Vegas, Nevada for the NAB Convention in April of 2019. She was apart of the Technology Internship Grant that gave KJZZ/KBAQ/Sun Sounds of Arizona a grant to have one intern work full-time the majority of the summer. Rachel gained more knowledge about broadcast engineering and recording from her work at the local, NPR-affiliated station.
